FOSSA

A fine art installation in collaboration with Amy Cutler, Emily Wells, and Adriana Papaleo. Fossa is a multidisciplinary piece incorporating nearly 3,000 ft of hair, both human and synthetic. Using antique rope making techniques and using her body as a spindle, Adriana hand spun each piece into multiple long threads; the longest measuring almost 10 stories. The threads were then braided totaling nearly 1,000 ft of braids. The braids were the visual focal point of the work and were used in various ways. From creating the sound “hive”, to traversing the gallery spaces through the walls, and adorning the headphones used to experience the work immersing each viewer into the experience. The braids are a visual representation of time, beauty, and serve as representational conduit of sound for Cutlers society of mystical women and the musical component created by Emily Wells. Fossa is in permanent residence at Ruby City in San Antonio Texas.
